The Truth About Open Doors and Sin
Sometimes, the things we go through arenโt necessarily โallowedโ by God. Instead, they are a result of sin that opens doors, giving the enemy access to our lives. Letโs reflect on the truth of God’s Word.
๐ Deuteronomy 28:1
“And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the Lord thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth:โ
๐ Then proceed to read through verse 14.
But the tone changes in…
๐ Deuteronomy 28:15
โBut it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the Lord thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee:โ
๐ Keep reading through verse 68.
Take time to read the entire chapter of Deuteronomy chapter 28. Some parts may sound eerily familiar when compared to history. Could many of the hardships we faceโboth personally and collectivelyโbe tied to sin and disobedience? ๐ค๐น
The Healing and Forgiveness Through Christ
๐ 1 Peter 2:24
“He Himself bore our sins in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sin and live for righteousness; by His wounds you were healed.”
๐ John 3:16
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.”
Through Jesus, we find forgiveness and healing. ๐ But grace isnโt an excuse to keep living in sin.
๐ Romans 6:1โ2
โWhat shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?โ
Let that scripture settle in your spirit. ๐
A Serious Warning
Please read and highlight this passage in your Bible. Itโs powerful and sobering:
๐ Hebrews 10:26โ31
26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,
27 But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries.
28 He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses:
29 Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
30 For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people.
31 It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
And this…
๐ Romans 1:28
“And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not convenient.”
Continuing in sin doesnโt just afflict your soul. It invites judgment, opens spiritual doors, and allows unnecessary attacks, pain, and affliction into your life. ๐๐ฅ
What Should We Do Instead?
Repent! ๐ Repentance has replaced the Old Testament sacrifice of lambs. Because of Jesus, we now have an atonement for our sins. Instead of you paying the spiritual price, Godโs Son didโbecause you abide in Him, accept Him, and turn away from sin.
๐น What is Repentance? ๐
Repentance is more than just feeling sorry for what weโve done โ it is a deliberate turning away from sin. It means choosing to stop engaging in willful sin and allowing our mindset to be transformed by God’s truth. Repentance is the moment we humbly admit where weโve fallen short, ask God for help in those areas, and seek His Word sincerely to bring about lasting change.
Because letโs be honest โ we can have moments of deep sorrow without truly repenting. Sometimes, we donโt want to change because change is hard. Change is uncomfortable. Itโs not easy to say things like, โI was wrong,โ โI need help,โ โIโm not where I thought I was spiritually,โ โIโm going to submit myself to the Word,โ or โIโm going to intentionally surround myself with wise counsel and connect with others in the faith who can help me grow.โ
๐ But hereโs what I do know:
2 Chronicles 7:14 (KJV) says:
“If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.”
โจ Bringing it all full circle โ sometimes the situations we face arenโt something God allowed just to test us, but rather doors that we opened through sin. The good news is that those doors can be closed. And repentance is the key. When we repent, God promises not only to forgive our sins โ but to heal our land.
